Remember the good old days when you could create a Google Alert for something as simple as “social media?” With the accelerated pace of innovation and overall activity in the market, it is harder and harder to keep up with developments. So, rather than the blog roll, which has gone the way of the Google Alert, we polled our social media team to find out what they’re reading to keep current:
Bill Pena, Chief Architect: Mashable.com is my favorite source for what’s new in social media and best practices for driving business results. New ways to communicate and share spring up daily, and old ones go away just as frequently, so I follow them on Twitter to keep tabs on where the conversations are happening now and how to get involved.
Craig Fitzgerald, Editorial Director: My favorite is Joe Pulizzi’s blog at the Content Marketing Institute: Junta42 It’s full of great tips and examples of successful content marketing techniques. I’m also a relentless follower of what content successful brands like MINI or Skittles are putting out in their social media efforts.
Carter Elkins-Paris, Social Media Consultant: As far as keeping up on industry trends goes… Mashable and social media today are always good. I also follow Wired’s Autopia for cool new auto tech.
Chris Pisarkiewicz, Marketing Manager: Mashable.com, Hubspot.com, Slideshare.net
Emily Holland, Social Media Consultant: The best place is actually social media! I find that twitter has some of the best automotive blogs and social media tips! Also by exploring social media and looking for something specific can help you to understand and use it to engage your audience and find new followers!
Larry Chiarelli, Sales: To get a great understanding of what is on the rise and what is on the fall inside social media – sites like socialmediatoday.com, socialmediaexaminer.com and the social news aggregate social-media.alltop.com will provide insight into just what works and what doesn’t work. There is plenty of content inside those sites to help any business adjust on the fly to new ways of engineering a smart social media strategy.
Maxine Jackson, Team Lead, IMN Social Driver: Some of my favorite places to look are Dreamgrow.com and Mashable.com. They’re both great resources for emerging news about social media, creating engaging content, managing pages, utilizing analytics, case studies and a whole lot more. I actually keep these 2 on my main RSS reader to make sure I stay up to date on the newest emerging trends.
Nancy Liberman, VP, Marketing: Aside from Mashable, the KISSMetrics blog, the PostRocket blog and the increasingly strong coverage from Forbes, I prefer to learn my social media from social media itself – I’m a big Twitter fan and follow @whysocialmedia_, @jeffbullas and a host of other search and social feeds.
