Eric Stoller is a social media guru, higher ed consultant and sought-after speaker. He combined all these talents in an enlightening presentation at NACCU 2011, when he challenged campus card leaders to really begin to use “social” to build their programs.
“Start small, get really good at one thing – get really good at facebook, really good at twitter, really good at youtube,” he suggests. “If you try all of them all at once … you’re going to have a social media ghost town.”
How can a campus card program get started in social media? Stoller recommends hiring students that “rock social.” They can do great work, he says, but cautions that you have to let them run and not attempt to edit every thing they post. “You gotta have some trust that they are going to do good work and be good stewards of this content,” he explains.
