Social networking sites are announcing their plans for the first presidential debate between Mitt Romney and President Obama on Wednesday night.
The official Twitter hashtag is #debates.
Facebook is hosting a series of interviews and panels on the University of Denver campus, where the debate will be held, starting at 5 p.m. ET on Wednesday. They will broadcast them all on Facebook Politics Live. Here’s a list of the guests, which includes Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (D) and Sen. Michael Bennet (D).
Tumblr announced Monday it is partnering with The Guardian to “live GIF” the debate on its election blog.
Tumblr’s editor-in-chief Chris Mahoney issued a cheeky statement with the announcement, saying their research “indicates that most Americans now consume their hard news in the form of animated GIFs” and that they ”take the potential of legitimate GIF journalism very seriously.”
PBS NewsHour is partnering with Amara, a crowdsourced subtitling platform to translate online videos of the debate for non-English speakers and people who are deaf and hard of hearing.
Those videos will be available after the debate here. Amara spokesman Josh Segall said previous videos translated in conjunction with PBS were translated into an average of 12 languages.
